Breeding Philosophy

My goal is to preserve the breed as it was entrusted to us by our ancestors. I strive to breed strong, healthy dogs with excellent drive, always ready for work, while also being mentally resilient and well-balanced.

Health

Health is always the top priority. The saying "health is the most valuable thing we have" holds true in dog breeding as well. Producing strong, healthy offspring is the cornerstone of responsible breeding. We perform as many available genetic tests as possible to screen for serious conditions and carefully avoid mating dogs with known risks.

At around 18 months, our dogs go to a complete X-rays, including the mandatory hip and elbow dysplasia assessments, as well as additional evaluations — spinal X-rays for transitional vertebrae and spondylosis, OCD screening, and patellar luxation checks. We also carefully study pedigrees to avoid lines with known health or temperament issues.

Nature, however, can be unpredictable. Even when a breeder does everything responsibly, a puppy with health issues may still be born. While we cannot guarantee perfection, we always do our best to minimize risks and raise healthy dogs.

Temperament

Temperament is the second pillar of our breeding program. A dog that is mentally unstable is nearly as concerning as a dog with physical health problems. We carefully select parent pairs to ensure both have excellent temperaments. A Toller should never be timid or aggressive.

We look for dogs that are friendly and sociable without being overly intrusive. They should be confident, energetic, and naturally alert, and they must get along well with people and other animals — in short, dogs you can take anywhere.

Working Ability

We aim to breed Tollers with high working drive. Our dogs are tireless, confident in the field, and unafraid of any terrain or challenge. They are independent problem-solvers, reliable, and focused.

At the same time, we strive for balance — ensuring that their work drive does not lead to restlessness or anxiety. We breed dogs with an innate desire to retrieve and cooperate with humans. Our breeding dogs are unresponsive to gunshots and highly motivated by cold game, reflecting the original purpose of the breed.

Conformation

A Toller should look like a Toller. We avoid extremes in appearance and adhere closely to the breed standard. Any minor flaw in one dog is carefully balanced by selecting a mate with complementary traits.

Our goal is to breed dogs that can excellent in the show ring while maintaining functional, athletic conformation. Tollers should have strong bone structure, a deep chest, and well-angulated limbs, allowing them to work tirelessly in challenging terrain. They should appear athletic and agile, not heavy, reflecting both beauty and function.
